How are things?
Asteroids are small, rocky bodies
The good things are as good as they are and the bad things are as bad as they are. But the individual things mix together and most of the time you end up with a Thing Soup that’s not an extreme of either.
Your life, right now, for example: It’s probably not at the far end of good or the far end of bad.
Probably somewhere in the middle.
Even when you’re having a far end of bad moment, there are still lots of good things. You’re just busy thinking about the big bad thing, so for a second you forget about all the rest of the things which range from ugh to neutral to okay to good to fucking fantastic. But they keep existing. They don’t just disappear because a big bad thing pops up.
So as you see the dark cloud hovering and throwing jagged shadows, it might seem like everything is absolutely ruined. But probably it’s not. Not everything. Like, say, the sunset. Not ruined. Or a really good sandwich: Still good!
Everything is so much, right? It’s a lot. It’s ALL the things. And while you may be facing something very big and very bad, it’s not big and bad enough to ruin EVERYTHING unless it is an asteroid so large that it will “create a tremendous dust plume that would envelope the entire planet, block out the sun and raise temperatures where the asteroid made impact. Billions would die, and much of life on the planet would be destroyed.”
I mean, if that’s happening, sure. All bets are off. Hug your loved ones, shoot some fireworks, and get drunk.
But probably even if the big bad thing IS an asteroid set to collide with earth, it’s not 7 or 8 miles wide. It’s probably 1 mile wide at most. Which, to be fair, is significant and will cause a lot of damage especially if said asteroid is landing on top of you.
So wear a helmet. Buckle up and do your best to ride it out. It won’t be fun, probably. But sunsets and sandwiches will still exist and be good, despite the damage, and you will too. Most likely you’ll even be able to enjoy them again before too long.
