I had not thought of "two faces", but I get it. Man, it would be nice to just flow with it, those tides of daily life; to not have crisis' happening so often; to not look at change with trepidation. Like you, I have lived in a world with crisis being the norm ( shouldn't it have become a less traumatic thing by now ? ). As for labor pain, unlike you, I could not handle it and actively sought to mentally lessened it which put my son in danger.... a trade of one crisis for another.

Thank you for this post, Annie. It's been a long, cold winter and right now we are in the midst of moving my mom, who has a rare form of dementia that affects the communication center of her brain, out of her home of 47 years into a senior care facility near us (1.5 hours away). It's one of the hardest things I've ever done in my life – breaks my heart how much she's declined, plus she's super feisty and quite difficult to boot! Anyway, I appreciate what you've written. It spoke to my present situation so much!
